11:17 AM EDT, 09/20/2023 (MT Newswires) -- European equities traded in the US as American depositary receipts were higher in Wednesday trading, rising 1.01% to 1,225.52 on the S&P Europe Select ADR Index.
From continental Europe, the gainers were led by biotech firm Evaxion Biotech (EVAX), which surged 34%, followed by biopharmaceutical company Cellectis (CLLS), which rose 4.9%. Biopharmaceutical companies Genfit (GNFT) and MorphoSys (MOR) were up 3.7% and 3.5% respectively.
The decliners from continental Europe were led by biotech firm Biophytis (BPTS) and medical device maker EDAP TMS (EDAP), which fell 11% and 1.1% respectively. They were followed by pharmaceutical company Ascendis Pharma (ASND) and biotech firm BioNTech (BNTX), which were down 0.7% and 0.6% respectively.
From the UK and Ireland, the gainers were led by financial services company Lloyds Banking Group (LYG) and pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca (AZN), which rose 4.3% and 2.3% respectively. They were followed by utilities company National Grid (NGG) and construction materials supplier CRH (CRH), which increased 2.1% and 1.9% respectively.
The decliners from the UK and Ireland were led by biopharmaceutical company NuCana (NCNA) and software firm Endava (DAVA), which lost 4.1% and 3.6% respectively. They were followed by pharmaceutical company Silence Therapeutics (SLN), which fell 2.6%.
