European Equities Close Mixed in Monday Trading

12:25 PM EDT, 07/08/2024 (MT Newswires) -- European stock markets closed mixed in Monday trading as the Stoxx Europe 600 gained 0.03%, the Swiss Market Index advanced 0.38%, France's CAC dropped 0.63%, the FTSE in London eased 0.13%, and Germany's DAX rose 0.07%.

Seasonally adjusted services production increased 1.1% in both the euro area and the EU in April from March, according to first estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the EU. Services production increased 4.8% in the euro area and 4.2% in the EU from a year earlier.

In Germany, exports declined 3.6% and imports dropped 6.6% in May, from April, adjusted for calendar and seasonal factors, according to the Federal Statistical Office. Exports dropped 1.6% from a year earlier, while imports fell 8.7%.

In Ireland, the headline seasonally adjusted BNP Paribas Real Estate Ireland Construction Total Activity Index fell to 47.5 in Jume from 49.8 in May, marking the second straight decline.

Canadian fund Brookfield and the Grifols family are jointly bidding to acquire Spanish drugmaker Grifols and plan to delist it, Reuters reported, citing regulatory filings. Grifols' board held a meeting over the weekend to study the preliminary offer from Brookfield and the firm's founding family, which has a 30% state, the report said.

Swiss bank UBS has hired Barclays' Alejandro Palacio as managing director for technology dealmaking, Bloomberg reported Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.

US pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly participated in a series A financing round for UK drug developer Myricx Bio that raised 90 million pounds ($114 million), Myricx said. The funding was co-led by Novo Holdings, which is the controlling shareholder of Danish pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk, and venture capital firm Abingworth.

Apple agreed to allow Epic Games to sell directly to European iPhone users, Epic Games said Friday. The video game and software developer had accused Apple of violating EU antitrust rules by refusing to accept its design proposals for alternatives to the App Store.

Motorola Solutions said Sunday it is opening a new software research and development center in Cork, Ireland.
