07:49 AM EDT, 10/14/2024 (MT Newswires) -- European bourses tracked marginally lower midday Monday as traders weighed soft weekend inflation reports from Beijing, and awaited earnings-season catalysts.

In a possible sign of a sluggish economy, mainland China's consumer price index (CPI) rose a modest 0.4% on year in September, well below the 3% annual target of the People's Bank of China (PBOC), reported the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Sunday.

Additionally, China's producer price index (PPI) deflated by 2.8% in September on year, declining for the 24th straight month, reported the NBS.

On continental exchanges, tech stocks edged higher, while property issues lagged.

Investors also eyed Wall Street futures signaling green, but uneven closes overnight on Asian trading floors after the soft inflation outlook from Beijing.

The pan-continental Stoxx Europe 600 Index was off 0.1% mid-session.

The Stoxx Europe 600 Technology Index was up 0.1%, and the Stoxx 600 Banks Index lost 0.1%.

The Stoxx Europe 600 Oil and Gas Index was off 0.3%, and the Stoxx 600 Europe Food and Beverage Index declined 0.2%.

The REITE, a European REIT index, fell 0.8%, and the Stoxx Europe 600 Retail Index declined 0.2%.

On the national market indexes, Germany's DAX was up 0.2%, and the FTSE 100 in London was flat. The CAC 40 in Paris was off 0.3%, and Spain's IBEX 35 gained 0.5%.

Yields on benchmark 10-year German bonds were lower, near 2.27%.

Front-month North Sea Brent crude-oil futures were down 2.3% to $77.25 per barrel, after China inflation reports hinted at lower pending demand.

The Euro Stoxx 50 volatility index was up 0.3% to 18.52, indicating below-average volatility for European stock markets in the next 30 days, a positive signal. A reading above 20 indicates choppier markets ahead, while below 20 suggests calmer exchanges.
