06:42 AM EST, 12/10/2025 (MT Newswires) -- European bourses tracked modestly lower midday Wednesday as traders awaited the pending rate decision from the US Federal Reserve, and mulled Ukraine-Russia war prospects.

Oil stocks led gains on continental trading floors, while property shares lagged.

Investors also eyed muted Wall Street futures and mixed closes overnight on Asian exchanges.

In economic news, European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde said the central bank may lift its growth forecasts for Europe in an interview with the Financial Times newspaper.

In other news, French officials said that Ukraine's allies in the British- and French-led "coalition of the willing" will hold another meeting on Thursday, videoconferencing to coordinate support for Kyiv, reported France 24 news.

The pan-continental Stoxx Europe 600 Index was off 0.2% mid-session.

The Stoxx Europe 600 Technology Index was down 0.1%, and the Stoxx 600 Banks Index gained 0.2%.

The Stoxx Europe 600 Oil and Gas Index rose 0.6%, while the Stoxx 600 Europe Food and Beverage Index was steady.

The REITE, a European REIT index, fell 0.4%, while the Stoxx Europe 600 Retail Index was flat.

On the national market indexes, Germany's DAX was down 0.5%, and the FTSE 100 in London gained 0.2%. The CAC 40 in Paris was down 0.4%, and Spain's IBEX 35 eased 0.1%.

Yields on benchmark 10-year German bonds were higher, near 2.88%.

Front-month North Sea Brent crude oil futures were up 0.4% at $62.12 a barrel.

The Euro Stoxx 50 volatility index was up 2.1% at 16.48, still indicating below-average volatility for European stock markets in the next 30 days, a positive signal. A reading above 20 indicates choppier markets ahead, while below 20 suggests calmer exchanges.
