European Equities Mostly Higher in Monday Trading; Novo Nordisk Rolls Out Wegovy Pill in US

12:09 PM EST, 01/05/2026 (MT Newswires) -- European stock markets closed mostly higher in Monday trading with the Stoxx Europe adding 0.9%, Germany's DAX gaining 1.3%, the FTSE 100 advancing 0.5%, and France's CAC up 0.2%.

The Swiss Market Index was down 0.2%.

In corporate news, Novo Nordisk said Monday its Wegovy pill is now "broadly" available in the US for weight loss in adults with obesity or who are overweight and have weight-related medical problems.

Novo said the Wegovy pill was approved in December and is available through US pharmacies such as CVS and Costco.

Separately, Novo said Monday it will offer its 1.5 mg and 4 mg oral weight loss drug Wegovy at $149 per month to self-paying patients in the US, starting Jan. 5.

Novo shares rose 4.5% in Copenhagen.

UBS is selling additional tier 1 debt for the first time after the Swiss parliament proposed expanding its use to meet tighter capital reserve requirements, Bloomberg reported Monday.

The Swiss bank is considering selling two tranches of dollar-denominated notes: one callable in 2031 at around 7.125% and another callable in 2036 at around 7.5%, the report said.

UBS shares rose 3.3% in the Swiss market.

Eni said Monday that the business branch of its refining evolution and transformation unit has been transferred to new company Eni Industrial Evolution, effective Jan. 1.

Eni shares added 1.4% in Milan.

Manchester United said Monday that Ruben Amorim has departed his role as head coach and Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team against Burnley on Wednesday.
