European Bourses Join Global Relief Rally on Oil, War Outlooks

07:41 AM EDT, 03/10/2026 (MT Newswires) -- European bourses tracked higher midday Tuesday as the global equities "relief rally" reached the continent amid softer crude oil prices and remarks by US President Trump that a swift end to the Middle East conflict was possible.

Tech, bank, and property stocks led gains on continental trading floors, while food and oil shares lagged.

Investors also eyed Wall Street futures in the green, and solidly higher closes overnight on Asian exchanges, including a 5.4% rise on Seoul's KOSPI index.

In other news, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the European Union wants small modular nuclear reactors operational by the early 2030s, to create a safe and efficient energy system.

The pan-continental Stoxx Europe 600 Index was up 2.3% mid-session.

The Stoxx Europe 600 Technology Index was up 3.6%, and the Stoxx 600 Banks Index gained 4%.

The Stoxx Europe 600 Oil and Gas Index eased 0.5%, while the Stoxx 600 Europe Food and Beverage Index declined 0.2%.

The REITE, a European REIT index, rose 2.4%, while the Stoxx Europe 600 Retail Index was up 1.9%.

On the national market indexes, Germany's DAX was up 2.6%, and the FTSE 100 in London gained 1.7%. The CAC 40 in Paris was up 2.1%, and Spain's IBEX 35 lifted 2.9%.

Yields on benchmark 10-year German bonds were steady, near 2.85%.

Front-month North Sea Brent crude oil futures were down 8.1% at $90.91 a barrel.

The Euro Stoxx 50 volatility index was down 12.4% at 27.27, indicating above-average volatility for European stock markets in the next 30 days, a negative signal. A reading above 20 indicates choppier markets ahead, while below 20 suggests calmer exchanges.
