Nvidia Report Roils Asian Stock Markets

06:38 AM EDT, 07/06/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Asian stock markets churned on Monday after media reports that US-based chip colossus Nvidia (NVDA) will delay the introduction of its next-generation AI server rack system for more than a year, aggravating concerns regarding rich AI-sector valuations.

Hong Kong gained ground, Tokyo was flat, and Shanghai edged lower. Other regional exchanges were mixed and muted.

Brent oil fell 0.8% to $71.54 a barrel during Asian trading hours.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 fell 6.38 to 69,737.69, as tech issues eased. Gaining issues outnumbered losers 177 to 49, as declines were largely confined to AI and semiconductor issues.

Leading the upside was Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, up 8.4%, while advanced materials maker Taiyo Yuden fell 10.6%.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index opened evenly and rose to the close, finishing up 1.1% on gains in social media operators, property concerns, and delivery services, among others.

The broad gauge Hang Seng rose 266.29 to 23,616.32 as gaining issues outnumbered losers 58 to 31. The Hang Seng TECH Index gained 0.9% on the day, while the Mainland Properties Index rose 1.6%.

Leading the upside was social media platform Kuaishou Technology, gaining 8%, while Sunny Optical Technology declined 7.2%.

On the mainland, the Shanghai Composite fell 0.1% to 4,041.24.

On the other regional exchanges, the South Korean KOSPI fell 0.5%; the Taiwan TWSE declined 0.5%; the Australian ASX 200 declined 0.1%; the Singapore Straits Times Index rose 0.3%, and the Thai Set advanced 0.4%. In late trading in Mumbai, the Sensex was up 0.6%.

The MSCI All Country Asia Pacific Index rose 0.1% on the day.
