European Stocks Close Mostly Lower in Monday Trading; Novartis to Acquire Myricx for Up to $1.5 Billion

11:56 AM EDT, 07/06/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The European stock markets closed mostly lower in Monday trading as The Stoxx Europe declined 0.4%, Germany's DAX gained 0.2%, the FTSE 100 fell 0.3%, France's CAC dropped 0.3%, and the Swiss Market Index lost 0.9%.

In economic news, retail sales in the Eurozone rose a seasonally adjusted 0.2% in May from April, while those in the broader European Union rose by 0.5%. On a yearly basis, sales rose by 1.6% in May in the Eurozone and by 1.9% in the EU.

And in corporate news, Novartis said Monday it agreed to acquire privately held Myricx Bio for $1.1 billion upfront, with up to $400 million in milestone payments.

The company said the acquisition adds Myricx's antibody-drug conjugate platform using N-myristoyltransferase inhibitor payloads, a new approach designed to kill cancer cells and potentially overcome limitations of existing ADC therapies.

Myricx's pipeline includes two lead ADC candidates targeting B7-H3 and HER2 for multiple solid tumors, the company said.

The transaction is expected to close in H2 2026.

Shares of the Swiss pharmaceutical company fell 2.2% in Zurich.

Eni said Monday it has entered a deal to acquire a 25% stake in EnergyX's Chilean unit, Black Giant, for a total phased investment of $225 million.

Black Giant is developing a lithium project near the Salar de Punta Negra in northern Chile.

Under the agreement, Eni will also receive a seat on Black Giant's board and the option to purchase up to 25% of the project's lithium production, the company added.

Shares of the Italian oil and gas company declined 0.5% in Milan.

BP said Monday that it has agreed to sell its non-operated interest in the Bay du Nord project in Canada to Norwegian petroleum refiner Equinor.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Bay du Nord is located approximately 500 kilometers, or about 311 miles, offshore Newfoundland and Labrado, Canada. BP said it will still hold a 100% interest in two exploration licenses offshore Newfoundland and Labrador.

Shares of the British oil and gas major rose 0.1% in London.

ING has agreed to acquire an approximately 40% stake in Spanish wealth manager Singular Bank from Warburg Pincus, the company said Monday.

Singular Bank manages about 19 billion euros ($21.7 billion) in client assets and will continue to operate independently under CEO Javier Marin following the transaction, ING said.

The transaction is expected to close in Q1 2027, subject to regulatory approvals, the company said.

Shares of the Dutch bank gained 1.5% in Amsterdam.

Airbus has set an internal target of delivering about 900 aircraft in 2026 while maintaining its official guidance of about 870 deliveries, Reuters reported Sunday, citing industry sources.

Airbus delivered 89 aircraft in June, the report said.

Airbus did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.

Shares of the airplane manufacturer rose close to 2% in Paris.
