06:54 AM EDT, 09/25/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Asian stock markets were uneven on Friday as traders weighed rising bond yields, lower crude prices, and muted results from an official meeting overnight between China and US leaders.

Tokyo finished in the green, while Hong Kong lost ground. Other regional exchanges were mixed, with trading floors dark on holiday in in Shanghai, Taiwan and Seoul.

Brent crude oil futures declined 1.1% to 105.47, during Asian market hours.

The Thursday summit between President Donald Trump and China President Xi Jinping yielded a two-month trade truce extension, but few other headlines.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 opened higher and rose to the close, finishing up 1.3% as traders again favored AI and semiconductor issues, and shrugged off rising bond yields.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 rose 850.21 to 66,364.20, as gaining issues outnumbered losers 170 to 51.

Leading the upside was heavy-equipment maker Komatsu, up 6%, while construction concern Shimizu declined 6%.

In economic news, yields on 10-year Japanese government bonds neared 3.12%, and tested fresh 30-year highs.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index opened lower and drifted, closing down 1% as traders backed away from property and tech sectors.

The broad gauge Hang Seng fell 251.04 to 24,510.09 as losing issues outnumbered gainers 81 to 11. The Hang Seng TECH Index lost 1.1% on the day, while the Mainland Properties Index fell 1.3%.

Leading the upside was computer-maker Lenovo, gaining 3.2%, while Weichai Power declined 4.8%.

On the mainland, the Shanghai Composite fell 1.2% to 3,888.37.

On the other regional exchanges, the Australian ASX 200 declined 0.4%; the Singapore Straits Times Index rose 0.5%, and the Thai Set inclined 0.3%. In late trading in Mumbai, the Sensex was up 0.4%

The MSCI All Country Asia Pacific Index rose 0.7% on the day.
