Tech Strength, Easing Oil Bills Lift Asian Stock Markets

06:37 AM EDT, 10/06/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Asian stock markets generally gained on Tuesday, as global crude prices eased and traders weighed another fresh all-time zenith close overnight on Wall Street's tech-heavy Nasdaq index.

Hong Kong and Tokyo finished in the green, while trading floors in Shanghai were dark on holiday. Other regional exchanges were mixed on the high side.

Brent crude oil futures dropped 1.9% to $98.45 a barrel during Asian market hours.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 opened evenly and rose to the close, finishing up 1.1% as traders waded into AI- and semiconductor-related shares.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 rose 737.12 to 70,683.98, topping the 70,000 milestone for the first time since July, as gaining issues outnumbered losers 165 to 55.

Leading the upside was electronic-components maker Taiyo Yuden, up 6.2%, while tech financier SoftBank declined 3.1%.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index opened higher and held ground, closing up 1% on strength in tech and property shares.

The broad gauge Hang Seng rose 240.22 to 24,280.56, as gaining issues outnumbered losers 69 to 22. The Hang Seng TECH Index inclined 0.9% on the day, while the Mainland Properties Index rose 0.7%.

Leading the upside was J&T Global Express, gaining 5%, while Anto Sports Products declined 2.5%.

On the other regional exchanges, the S. Korean KOSPI fell 0.9%; the Taiwan TWSE inclined 0.2%; the Australian ASX 200 inclined 0.6%; the Singapore Straits Times Index rose 0.7%, and the Thai Set inclined 0.4%.

The Sensex in Mumbai was up 0.7%.

The MSCI All Country Asia Pacific Index rose 0.4% on the day.
