Softer Bond Yields, Petroleum Prices Buoy European Bourses Midday

07:42 AM EDT, 10/06/2026 (MT Newswires) -- European bourses tracked higher midday Tuesday as bond yields and oil prices softened, promoting risk-on sentiments among traders.

Tech, bank, food and property stocks led gains on continental trading floors, while oil shares lagged.

The pan-continental Stoxx Europe 600 Index was up 0.7% mid-session.

Front-month Brent crude-oil futures were down 2% at $98.32 a barrel, in midday action.

Investors also eyed Wall Street futures in the green, and higher closes overnight on Asian exchanges.

In economic news, the seasonally adjusted Eurozone construction purchasing managers index total activity index logged at 43.4 in September, up modestly from 43.0 in August, but still indicating a further contraction in construction activity, reported S&P Global.

In Germany, seasonally adjusted new orders in manufacturing fell 10.6% in August from July, but still gained 2.7% on year, reported Destatis.

In the sectors, the Stoxx Europe 600 Technology Index was up 1.2%, and the Stoxx 600 Banks Index gained 1.2% mid-session.

The Stoxx Europe 600 Oil and Gas Index eased 0.6%, while the Stoxx 600 Europe Food and Beverage Index inclined 1.1%.

The REITE, a European REIT index, rose 1%.

On the national market indexes, Germany's DAX was up 0.6%, and the FTSE 100 in London gained 0.4%. The CAC 40 in Paris was up 0.5%, and Spain's IBEX 35 lifted 0.7%.

Yields on benchmark 10-year German bonds were lower, near 3.47%.

The Euro Stoxx 50 volatility index was down 3.9% at 18.28, indicating below-average volatility for European stock markets in the next 30 days, a positive signal. A reading above 20 indicates choppier markets ahead, while below 20 suggests calmer exchanges.
