07:50 AM EDT, 10/16/2026 (MT Newswires) -- European bourses tracked moderately higher midday Friday as traders weighed the unfolding earnings season, and bonds traded in narrow ranges.

The pan-continental Stoxx Europe 600 Index was up 0.5% mid-session, as bank and tech stocks led broad gains on continental trading floors.

Boosting tech sentiments, Aixtron shares traded up 4.5% midday after the German maker of semiconductor-manufacturing equipment reported preliminary Q3 results above expectations, late Thursday.

Brent crude-oil futures were up 0.5% to $106.47 a barrel, in midday action.

Investors also eyed muted Wall Street futures, and higher closes overnight on Asian exchanges.

In economic news, the European Central Bank should pursue "least one further 25 basis point increase in policy rates in 2026" to ensure that core inflation remains well contained, advised the International Monetary Fund's Regional Economic Outlook for Europe report.

In the sectors, the Stoxx Europe 600 Technology Index was up 0.7%, and the Stoxx 600 Banks Index gained 0.8%.

The Stoxx Europe 600 Oil and Gas Index rose 0.6%, while the Stoxx 600 Europe Food and Beverage Index also inclined 0.6%.

The REITE, a European REIT index, rose 0.5%.

On the national market indexes, Germany's DAX was up 0.9%, and the FTSE 100 in London was down 0.1%. The CAC 40 in Paris was up 0.2%, and Spain's IBEX 35 lifted 0.8%.

Yields on benchmark 10-year German bonds were marginally higher, near 3.44%.

The Euro Stoxx 50 volatility index was down 3.9% at 17.89, indicating below-average volatility for European stock markets in the next 30 days, a positive signal. A reading above 20 indicates choppier markets ahead, while below 20 suggests calmer exchanges.
